Background

Today’s America is nothing like that which our founding fathers incredibly envisioned over 230 years ago. Our founders were not from the poor and working classes, most were highly intelligent and well educated. They came together to throw off the chains of an old worn out socio-economic and political system and while many sought their fortunes, they sought a virtuous life and expected high moral and ethical standards to be their guiding principles. America needs to rekindle the fire our founders had if we are to again advance the health of our nation. A virtuous life that brings wealth and fortune was and forever will be so much more meaningful than wealth which only comes from greed and selfishness.

No healthy person in our great country should be struggling to make ends meet. Everyone has some talent, knowledge, skills, experiences, and interests to share. ThePortalUSA.org strives to help our fellow American’s learn how to help themselves and to free themselves from government handouts, low paying jobs, and debts.

Unfortunately, our current hyper-capitalistic model maximizes income for a relatively small group and thus is not the optimal system for the entire population. This does not say we need to take from the rich to give to the poor, it says we need to give more tools, knowledge, and support to our working people so they once again can be motivated and inspired to innovate, create, invent, and build a better tomorrow.

Our citizens cannot do this if they are buried in debt, suffering without healthcare, unable to afford higher education, unable to find a good source of income, or settle down into a reasonably priced home in a safe neighborhood. If these essential attributes of a free and healthy society are no longer achievable for most of our people, then there is no hope for America to remain a world leader for any class of our people.

The American Dream is now well out-of-reach by the vast majority of our population. The top 1% may be safe for now as they can afford to lose 90% of their wealth and still live better than the bottom 90% of the population. Unless we as a nation redesign and advance our socio-economic system to adapt to the needs of an advanced technological society, the vast majority of America could easily fall into a long and painful depression. An advanced society will need to harness all the possible renewable energy sources and create systems which allow a much greater percentage of our citizens to access and share important information so we can improve our nation’s productivity.

Without vibrant local economies, the worker has no hope for his future. Without vibrant local economies, the wealthy no longer can invest in the inventions of their neighbors and they must turn to making money in foreign lands and through the design of complex financial and legal engineering schemes that skew the distribution wealth in their favor as the American economic pie continues to shrink.

The only opportunity for real growth we hear about today comes from the prospects of rapidly developing foreign economies like those of China and India. As those economies prosper, our buying power will become insignificant and we will find ourselves unable to produce the basic things we need to function as a strong society.

If our wealthy citizens are forced to look elsewhere for growth, the rest of the population must join together and once again build America up with our own hands and minds. This will increase our value and once again create a financial environment that will lead the world and again attract the investment of our wealthiest American’s. American growth must be seeded in America and not in foreign lands or our roots will certainly die and not be able to recover.
